He emphasized the need for mining companies to adopt more ethical practices that respect both the environment and the livelihoods of the local population. Hon. Anamero called for an end to the exploitative behaviors that have negatively impacted the host communities, particularly in Okpella, and urged mining companies to take greater responsibility for their actions.
In addition to his critique, Hon. Dekeri advocated for the institutionalization of a robust and effective Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. Such a strategy would ensure that host communities benefit from the presence of large corporations through development projects, improved infrastructure, and social support initiatives. He stressed that mining companies must not only extract resources but also give back to the communities that house them.
Hon. Anamero reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that companies operating in Etsako and beyond adopt practices that prioritize the well-being of their host communities, calling for a new era of responsible mining in Edo State.
