National Assembly Committee on Solid Minerals Visits Dangote Cement Mining Site in Obajana

As part of its legislative oversight responsibilities, the House of Representatives Committee on Solid Minerals conducted an official visit to the Dangote Cement mining site in Obajana yesterday. This crucial visit is part of ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to ensure that mining companies uphold their responsibilities to both the environment and the communities they operate in.

The visit aims to address key issues, including holding mining companies accountable for the environmental degradation caused by their operations and ensuring that these companies implement necessary measures to protect the local environment. Environmental sustainability in mining is critical, and the committee’s oversight role ensures that companies adhere to guidelines that limit harm to ecosystems while promoting responsible resource extraction.

Additionally, the visit was part of an initiative to foster stronger, mutually beneficial relationships between mining companies and their host communities. By facilitating an atmosphere of cooperation, the committee hopes to encourage mining companies to take on more corporate social responsibility initiatives, thereby improving the lives of the people in their surrounding communities.

Hon. Anamero Dekeri, a key member of the committee and representative of Etsako Federal Constituency, highlighted that this oversight visit is crucial to maintaining peaceful and productive relations between mining corporations and their host communities. He stressed the importance of businesses like Dangote Cement maintaining a harmonious relationship with local communities, as this is essential for long-term business success and community development.

Through such initiatives, the National Assembly is working to ensure that companies like Dangote Cement contribute positively to the economy while also prioritizing environmental and social responsibilities.
